Charlie Woods narrowly escapes a bizarre injury as Tiger and mom Elin Nordegren watch on during the tournament
Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, had a close call during the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship's opening round on Saturday. A recovery shot on the 11th hole at Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida, almost hit him in the face, prompting him to duck and cover. Woods, with his dad and mom, Elin Nordegren, in attendance, had hit a ball under a tree and was attempting to clear it when the shot struck a root and ricocheted back towards him. The Palm Beach Post reported that the ball narrowly missed Woods, who had to drop his club and shield his face to avoid injury.
Despite the close call, Woods recovered, reaching the green and making a long putt for par. Tiger Woods praised his son's shot, joking about the incident. After two days of the tournament, Woods is three-over par, currently sitting at T22. He shot a 73 on Saturday and a 72 on Sunday, showing resilience after a challenging start.
This is Woods' first year competing in the tournament, and he's been making waves in the sport. He's ranked 13th in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and earned first-team All-America recognition. His success comes after helping the Benjamin School golf team win a state championship in November.
The Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, which Tiger Woods won in 1991, concludes on Tuesday with the announcement of the winner after the final day's play.
